Ingredients
250g elbow macaroni
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
½ tsp mustard powder
Salt and pepper
¼ cup breadcrumbs (optional)
Instructions
Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, then whisk in flour to create a roux. Gradually add milk while stirring to avoid lumps, cooking until slightly thickened. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese and mustard powder until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine the cooked pasta with the cheese sauce and transfer to a baking dish. Top with breadcrumbs if desired, then bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly. Serve hot, straight from the oven.
